Michael Bloomberg Presidential Endorsement

Someone I’ve begun to admire greatly is mega-billionaire and mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg. A Democrat-turned-Repuplican-turned-Independent, Bloomberg has a no-nonsense approach that I think this country needs.

I keep searching for indications of who he will endorse in the presidential race. Here’s what I’ve found.

As of today, October 10, 2008, he has not endorsed anyone. On Meet The Press several weeks ago Bloomberg said that he has purposely not endorsed inorder to continue a “meaningful dialog” with both candidates.  Below are bits of what I have come across.

An article on CNNPolitics.com quotes Bloomberg: (Read the full story by clicking here.)
- “I’m looking for a candidate that is willing to face reality and say, ‘We can’t have everything and there are costs and we’ve got to make choices.’”
- “Some of the things they will be in favor of I will agree with, some of the things they will be in favor of I won’t. But at least we’ll have an adult in office who can lead and can accomplish something.”
- Bloomberg then ticked through a list of major issues affecting society, citing international relations, terrorism, health care, public education and energy independence as examples.
- “Right now, everybody is afraid to tell the American public that there’s no easy answers,” he said. “Nobody is willing to do anything other than say, ‘I’m in favor of motherhood and apple pie.’”
- “You may have a different solution to the problem than I do, but at least tell me, tell the public, there’s a reason to stand up and pull together, and it’s going to require sacrifice and dedication and compromise,” he said.
